LHvista2The group of cottages which is The prize-winning gardencalled “Les Gîtes de Kerdalidec” is an old Breton farmstead built of pink granite, just outside the village of Plougasnou, surrounded by fields of maize and artichokes and only two kilometres from a picturesque sandy beach. Two hundred years ago, the Longhouse was the bakery for the village and still contains the massive granite fireplace and arched stonework of the bread oven. The village is only ten minutes walk and there you will find a large supermarket, boulangerie, medical centre, tourist office, play-park, skate-park…in fact everything you could possible need. There is also an excellent restaurant at the end of our road which is only five minutes walk and has a good kid’s menu. Babies and children are on the whole welcomed in French restaurants.

The LonghouseWe have three gîtes to rent, all The garden in autumnrenovated to a high standard and very comfortably furnished for Summer or Winter holidays. The Longhouse  which has a Saturday changeover, is the left-hand half of the main building, and can accommodate up to twelve guests in five bedrooms.  We normally say it is suitable for three couples and their children. It has central heating and a wood burning stove. The Crèche (photo up on the right) which has a Saturday changeover, has two bedrooms to sleep two to five guests and also has a wood-burning stove.

The Wellhouse (photo up on the right) which has a Friday changeover, can sleep two adults and two young children in its two bedrooms. All the houses have Internet access and each house has its own private garden with garden furniture and BBQ and direct access to the huge shared garden.  Only the Crèche has a completely enclosed private garden. We live on site next to the Longhouse and are very happy to help you with any problem you have and with advice on places to visit etc.

hammock1Kerdalidec is perfect for childrenFeeding the rabbits and has a  play area with swings and a slide in the  shared part of the garden. There are also animals to feed  such as chickens, ducks, rabbits and sheep. Many children have cried when they had to go home and leave the rabbits. For babies we can provide cots, high-chairs and stair-gates.

Meet Beaky the pigeon who lives with the rabbits.Meet “Beaky” the pigeon. We found her in a car-park in Morlaix. She had fallen out of her nest and was too young to feed herself so we brought her home and fed her by hand. When she was old enough we put her in with the rabbits until she was strong enough to fly away. Now she is an adult pigeon but won’t leave the rabbits. When we let her out, she flies around and then goes straight back in with the rabbits. In winter they all snuggle up together.

A wall of sweet smelling rosesGuests can relax in the beautiful Hydrangeasgardens of the property while their children play safely and for several years now the garden has won first prize in the village “Maison Fleuri” competition.  No toxic chemicals are used in the garden which means it is a haven for wildlife.  We have a resident green woodpecker and are often visited by foxes, mink, pheasants and very occasionally, deer. We have a couple of old bikes which guests can use to nip to the boulangerie for croissants in the morning and for those of a more adventurous spirit we can arrange horse riding, sailing courses, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, tennis and you can hire bikes and kayaks at the restaurant just at the end of our road.

New for 2012: PlChildren's play areaougasnou’s The new skate-parkactive youth council asked the Town Hall for a play area and the very generous local council have built for them a new skate-park and children’s play area. This is only 10 minutes walk from Kerdalidec and is very popular with locals and visitors. Don’t forget to bring your skates and skate-boards!
